Meet the Therapist

Brian O'Neill has a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. He has worked extensively with teens and families in conventional and outdoor settings as well as with couples using an integration of various modalities personalized to the needs of each client. Through a systemic perspective, the lens of attachment theory, and trauma-informed, experiential, research-based approaches to psychotherapy, Brian helps people work though their chronic stress, trauma, and/or dysfunctional family and relational patterns. He sees change as an experiential process, entering the heart of the matter and the person where healing, growth, and transformation await.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Brian O’Neill is trained in Systemic Clinical Supervision through the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and Supervisor of Supervisors (SoS) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors as well as a Certified Professional Counsellor Supervisor with the PACCP. Brian is experienced in providing individual and group supervision for clinical counsellors and counselling interns. Brian works from a systemic, experiential framework informed by Attachment Theory, Family Systems Theory, and Couples Counselling frameworks (EFT, Gottman, and Satir).

Approach to Clinical Supervision

Brian provides a collaborative space to process the impacts, dynamics, stuckness, and the complex ethical considerations that arise in counselling and supervision. Brian’s approach to supervision aims for continual development of  reflective practice, clinical/supervisory and conceptualization skills, and ethical practice. Person of the Therapist (POTT) work - exploring emerging themes, (counter-)transference, parallel or isomorphic processes etc. - is seen as essential for the enhancement of professional confidence, consciousness, and competence.
